Mt. Diablo Project

Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Family Room including new furnishings

Client Must Haves

The homeowners’ wanted a complete overhaul of their downstairs area. The existing kitchen and family room were dark and cluttered. Adding to the clutter were the big bottles of water for their water dispenser. They wanted the kitchen and family room to be bright, neat and open. New luxury vinyl flooring that matched existing hardwood floors were to replace carpets. The living room, dining room and hallway needed new paint color, new furnishings and better lighting.

Unique Features

Kitchen
To bring in much needed light, the existing patio cover was torn down and a solar tube added to the kitchen. Removing the wall cabinets by the peninsula, relocating the double oven and removing the railing that separated the kitchen and the family room open up the space and create a more expansive feel. Blue base cabinets with white uppers and tall cabinets along with light blue walls and white painted shiplap add to the visual continuity. A custom built-in cabinet next to the water dispenser keeps the water bottles neatly tucked away and declutters the space.

Family Room
The original fireplace was demolished and a more streamlined version was installed. The new built-in entertainment center includes a built-in pullout for the homeowner’s printer. Shiplap on both sides of the fireplace adds architectural detail.

Dining Room
The floral wallpaper on the tray ceiling accented by yellow crown molding and the “floral-like” glass chandelier provide drama in the dining space. The yellow wall color helps make the new dining room a warm and inviting place.

Living Room
New furnishings and new furniture layout give the homeowners a more relaxing room to host game nights.  Relocating the piano from the dining room to the living room makes the living room the perfect entertaining space.

Client Review

“Rita was instrumental in bringing the vision for our downstairs transformation into a reality. I initially selected her because her work was colorful, yet serene. As it turns out, she was a perfect match for us. We appreciated how detailed and organized she was throughout the project. Her communication was timely and we were always kept in the loop with everything. She was a lot of fun to shop and create with. Rita took the ideas and needs of our family and somehow made us all happy! We are enjoying the comforts and organization of our “new home” especially in these times when we are at home more often. She’s the best!”
