Classic White Kitchen
Kitchen Remodel
Client Must Haves
The homeowners were not happy with their kitchen which had a lot of cabinets and yet they found storage to be lacking. They did not like its mauve 4x4 tiled countertop and backsplash and having the cooktop on the island that took away counter space needed for baking. Because their pantry lacked organization, they frequently ended up buying items they already had. They wanted new hard wood floors and wanted to be able to age in place.
Their new kitchen had to have a slab countertop, be modern, functional and meet their aesthetic needs. The house sat on a slab foundation which had to factor in the design.
Unique Features
Because the house sat on a slab, the sink and the refrigerator remained in their original locations. Otherwise, the new kitchen is unrecognizable. The cabinetry boasts a split finish–white on the perimeter and dark stained wood on the island. Removing a soffit allowed the cabinets to go all the way to the ceiling. A range replaced the double oven and cooktop and was relocated to a perimeter wall. For ease of storage and access, base cabinets were designed with roll outs and with plate and pot drawers. New overhead light and shallower shelving with underlighting were installed in the walk-in pantry providing better visibility. The new island is large and has enough counter space for baking. Along with double trash bins, a composting bin, drawers for mail, bills and correspondence, the new island has a paper shredder making it easy for the homeowner to shred personal papers.
Client Review
“We started our kitchen project exactly a year ago today. We hired GRW Construction and Quality Construction who recommended Rita to us. They said they love working with her since, unlike many designers, she is down to earth. My husband and I LOVE Rita! She has such a wonderful personality and has some excellent suggestions without being pushy. We had some very fun “shopping trips” selecting granite, tile, paint, etc. She works so well with the client and contractor that we ended up doing almost the entire house. We are so happy with Rita’s work that I am still working with her. I don’t think I can touch anything in the house without asking her expert opinion!”
